New Song Day 2

August 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Thoughts on the song one day after it was recorded…

It’s obviously a demo recording, as there are some flaws in the guitar and vocal lines that I overlooked, but in terms of the song itself I’m pretty happy with it. The chorus sounds more Dashboard-y than I would have liked, but I intend to record a full-band version of the song that would hopefully eliminate that aspect to it. But as an acoustic song goes, like I said before I’m happy with it. If you like it, let me know! If you don’t, let me know too! I’m working rather hard on the stuff I’m writing so the feedback is really appreciated. My priority right now is naming it, and hopefully it’ll be named shortly, though I’m not going to rush it.

EDIT:  The song’s title is “Most People Say.”  I chose it because it could work as the pre-lyric to the chorus, as in “Most people say you don’t look like you’re ready…” etc.

New Song

There’s a new acoustic song up on the purevolume!! Listen to it!!!  It is untitled currently and here are the lyrics:

You know what you’re getting into
Your ears and your eyes are both through
But you’re not ready to move, yeah you’re not ready
It’s not much a matter of fear
You wish you could both disappear and come out ahead like before
But you don’t look like you’re ready
You don’t look like you’re ready to hear things you’ll want to forget
Stick around for now
Wait it out

Recording Update…

June 4, 2008 · 1 Comment

Today I did some work re-mastering an old demo recording of “Every Time We Touch” by my brother Tom’s ska band New Squids on the Dock. The new version sounds a lot less like an amateur demo, after I did some tampering with the faders and levels of everything. It will be available shortly on the band’s MySpace.

Also, in an effort to get a feel for some guitar, bass, and drum sounds I am recording a cover of (+44)’s “No It Isn’t.” My goal for the recording is to get it to sound as close to the original as possible. The drums are complete and sound great and the guitars and vocals aren’t very complicated and should be done soon. Another post once it’s finished.

Internet back up, New songs

May 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment

My internet has been down for the past few days because of our bad router, but now it’s back and I’m happy to say I am currently writing two songs that are sounding quite good. As of now they are both acoustic but I definitely plan on turning them into traditional band songs. One is a very stereotypical acoustic piece which may turn out more mellow, and the other is a 6/4 chromatic/minor/”Mars-Volta-ish” song that I think would make a very good opening track of a CD. I am going to continue working on these songs this week with the focus being on getting names for them and connecting them with lyrics I have already written. The next update will contain the names of the songs and maybe the lyrics.

The Beginning of FAIRVIEW music…

May 13, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I am dead-set on finally coming out with some debut music this summer. Whether it is solo stuff, collaborative efforts or someone else’s music altogether, I don’t really care; I just want to get my studio running. This page is going to be everything I can do to get my stuff out onto the Internet, with purevolume and myspace (unfortunately) being the sites where streaming will be available. I decided that having a “music production company” was the best way to go about what I hope to accomplish with this, as it leaves a whole lot of room for the many things I want to do in the future.

As of now, I have a couple of lyric ideas rolling and they are sounding quite good, my problem being coming up with some good guitar parts that accurately capture the meanings of the lyrics. I am going to start tomorrow (!!!) with a simple song I have been writing, going with the idea that coming out with some simple songs and actually producing a product will be the creative jolt that I need. Tomorrow will begin a dense stretch of recording, as I go through this first post erasing a few unnecessary “hopes;” Fairview music WILL have a sampler CD by the end of the summer!
